A refuge of calm in the middle of bustling Central, Flawless spa is bright, sleek and modern; there are faux Balinese touches here, no dark lighting, or statuettes of ambiguous spiritual traditions.

They offer a series of options for men, including manicures, pedicures, anti-ageing facials, and group bookings for boys' nights out, complete with gin and tonics. Friendly service, quiet and comfortable surrounds and a feeling of pervasive hominess put you at ease before the treatment even starts. At least partially this feeling was surely caused by the complimentary glass of champagne I accepted before remembering I hadn't had breakfast. Herbal teas are also available.

I tried the Feet Intensive Foot Treatment, which is reduced to the most essential elements: feet are soaked for five minutes before being scrubbed with an aromatic body scrub, then rinsed, oiled and wrapped in hot towels before the technician gets to work on the toenails. Each step is done with a confident deftness — the foot and leg massage is one of the highlights of the treatment — using products from London's Aromatherapy Associates (exclusive to Flawless) that speak more to purity than gimmicks or exotic ingredients: peppermint concentrate, Enrich Body Scrub, and lavender oil. This is not a treatment with many surprises but done well and at an excellent price. Flawless spa, or at least their Feet Intensive Foot Treatment — which flies by in a brisk 25 minutes — seems more suited to decompressing over a lunch break than luxuriating in on a Sunday afternoon, a treatment for the man on the go.
