What to do in Zhuhai, from Novotown’s movie theme park to the Xiawan Night Market
Whether you’re a fan of food, film or fantastic hilltop views, Zhuhai has plenty to offer visitors. Here are some of our recommendations
Since the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge in 2018, Zhuhai has become one of the most popular holiday hotspots in southern China’s Greater Bay Area.
That was boosted in 2021 by the launch of an official drive to turn its Hengqin Island into a major tourist destination.
At the heart of Hengqin is Novotown, an integrated tourism and entertainment project that, since opening in 2019, has become a top short-stay choice, especially for families with young children. As it celebrates its fifth anniversary, some of the attractions there are offering special deals and packages for visitors in September.
There are also more traditional outdoor scenic spots and markets to visit.
Here are five recommendations if you are planning a trip to Zhuhai in the coming weeks.
1. National Geographic Ultimate Explorer
A collaboration between National Geographic, the US TV network best known for its nature programmes, and family entertainment company iP2 Entertainment Design, this 4,500-square-metre (48,000-square-foot) immersive experiential centre in Novotown is a must-visit for anyone seeking an “out of this world” adventure – indoors.
