If the summer heat is getting too much for you, then there is plenty going on indoors in Hong Kong this weekend.
Those with an interest in 20th-century Cantonese art should head to the M+ museum to check out an exhibition, while film fans can catch Jurassic World Rebirth – the latest instalment in the dinosaur franchise – in cinemas.
For something a little slower-paced, head to a therapeutic plant-based cooking class and lunch on Lamma Island.
For something on Hong Kong Island, visit Testina, where a chicken feast will be prepared by former Post food editor Susan Jung.
1. Canton Modern: Art and Visual Culture, 1900s-1970s

A new exhibition at the M+ museum in West Kowloon examines how 20th-century Cantonese art and visual culture had global resonance.
It also shows how Guangzhou and Hong Kong developed their distinctive visual and artistic identities, shaped as they were by cross-cultural interactions and tensions between conservative and progressive values.
A timely and important show, tickets are HK$240 (US$31) for adults, HK$120 for concessions.
“Canton Modern: Art and Visual Culture, 1900s-1970s”, M+, West Kowloon Cultural District, 38 Museum Drive, Kowloon, Tue-Thu and Sun 10am-6pm, Fri and Sat 10am-10pm. Until July 13.
2. Jurassic World Rebirth


Ever since director Steven Spielberg’s masterly 1993 adaptation of Michael Crichton’s novel Jurassic Park, the franchise has strived but never quite managed to recapture that lightning-in-a-bottle moment.
Gareth Edwards, the British director behind Godzilla (2014) and Star Wars spin-off Rogue One (2016), comes mightily close with Rebirth. Perhaps “Remix” might be a more accurate title, as Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp conjure another Crichton-esque story set on an island.
This time, the setting is Ile Saint-Hubert, a tropical locale where research for the original theme park was conducted, including experiments with genetically mutated dinosaurs.
While it is a place where “travel is expressly forbidden”, that does not stop Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), a private contractor hired by a pharmaceutical company, from going there to retrieve samples from three of the biggest dinosaurs left in existence. Read our full review

3. Chicken Nose-to-Tail and Cocktails

Head to Testina, in Central, this Sunday for a one-night-only experience featuring all things chicken by food writer Susan Jung, paired with freshly shaken cocktails by The Savory Project bar.
The menu is truly nose-to-tail, kicking off with antipasti including chicken liver mousse and grilled chicken hearts, before moving onto chicken consommé, pasta with chicken combs and – the main act – chicken fritto misto.
Throughout, the SoHo bar will craft four different cocktails including its signature Gari Gari made with pickled ginger, whisky, passion fruit, ponzu and soda water, and a non-alcoholic Papaya Fire – mustard, passion fruit, papaya and Seedlip Spice.
Do not fret – dessert is bird-free, with a refreshing melon sorbet, and melon spheres with fresh mint, to cleanse the palate.
The menu is priced at HK$888 per person and served sharing style, while cocktails are priced at HK$128, or HK$120 for the non-alcoholic option.

4. Olive Leaf cooking class for women

Israeli chef Ayelet Idan has planned a relaxing and mindful experience through cooking at her idyllic home on Lamma Island, under the banner of Olive Leaf, this Sunday afternoon.
Leave your stress and worries at the Aberdeen pier and start to unwind on the 20-minute ferry ride to Pak Kok at 11.15am. On arrival, Idan will lead the way to light refreshments before lunch preparations begin.
Learn about the foods that support gut health and help alleviate depression and anxiety. They will be among the ingredients of the meal to be enjoyed as part of this women’s circle.
The plant-based lunch, which participants will help to prepare, will include a salad and stuffed peppers, as well as a dessert and a special bread. Expect lots of idea-sharing and exchanges before, during and after the meal.
Leave filled with the warmth of new friendships, fresh-baked bread and recipes to recreate at home. Take the ferry back to Aberdeen at 3.55pm – or go explore Lamma.

5. Little Fish book release

The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) has launched Little Fish, a picture book inspired by the farm and garden’s setting that touches on themes such as nature and spiritual growth through a story about a fish trying to save his friends.
Written by KFBG chairman Andrew McAulay and illustrated by Lucy Hinton, Little Fish shines a light on the relationship between humans and nature.
Little Fish (HK$78) is available in paperback in traditional Chinese and English at KFGB’s shop and leading bookstores, with proceeds supporting KFBG’s nature conservation and education projects.
