A cold spell is on its way in Hong Kong, but that should not stop you checking out an award-winning cocktail bar, rummaging through a retro-themed market or releasing tension and stress in a float pod this weekend.

1. Indian takeover at Bar Leone
Reset your palate this Sunday at Bar Leone (ranked #1 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars and #2 in World’s Best Bars), which will be hosting The Bombay Canteen, a cocktail bar from Mumbai, India, and one-Michelin-star Indian restaurant Chaat at Rosewood Hong Kong.
The award-winning bar will be presenting four cocktails inspired by India’s culinary heritage: Market Day; Side Snack; Bakery Run; and 888.
The Chaat team are presenting four dishes that fuse Italian and Indian flavours: palak paneer-baked cannelloni; lamb keema arancini with spiced tomato chutney; pakora fried calamari with mint chutney; and butter chicken pizza.
The event begins at 7pm and runs until late, and no reservations will be taken.

2. The Room Next Door


After a career stretching back 50 years, Pedro Almodóvar finally makes his feature debut in English with The Room Next Door, winner of the prestigious Golden Lion award at the 2024 Venice film festival.
This euthanasia tale features Almodóvar’s usual exquisite design – striking red, greens and yellows abound – and fantastic performances from Tilda Swinton, as a cancer-stricken woman who wants to take her own life, and Julianne Moore, as the friend reluctantly helping her.
Moore and Swinton do the real heavy lifting here, elevating Almodóvar’s competent English dialogue into something tangible. The result is an exquisite, adult melodrama made by a filmmaker reckoning with life’s biggest questions. Read our full review

3. Happy 90th Birthday Uncle Chu!

Chu Hing-wah is a 90-year-old retired psychiatric nurse who spent one-third of his life, between 1960 and 1992, training and working in hospitals. There, he was deeply touched witnessing the plight of mental patients.
He has spent double the number of years on his artistic practice, pouring out his thoughts and feelings onto Chinese xuan paper and in mixed media installations and Cantonese opera.
Chu’s retrospective at Hanart TZ Gallery, featuring over 60 works, is a celebration of the mostly self-taught artist’s personal and professional experiences from the 1960s until now.

4. Step back into old Hong Kong
Those craving a taste of nostalgic Hong Kong are well catered for with Red Retro Mart – A Lunar Celebration at 1880 Social Hong Kong in Quarry Bay.
Taking place today until 8pm and tomorrow, February 8, from 11am-6pm, the market features vendors such as mahjong brand Glocal Mahjong, vintage arts store Dongpo, modern cheongsam label Qipology and hip gelato brand Snack Baby, as well as cool jewels from Zoko Jewelry.
Hong Kong artist DJ Fu @djfu1 will be on the decks on February 8 for those who like to party while they shop.
