A home-grown cafe returns to Kwun Tong, a Wan Chai pawn shop gets a caffeine kick and new spots open in IFC Mall, Sai Ying Pun and Tai Hang

This month, Hong Kong’s cafe scene welcomes the return of a decade-old favourite to its original neighbourhood, as well as new establishments in Sai Ying Pun and Tai Hang.
Several new openings blend concepts, including a coffee shop set up in a former pawn shop and a cafe collaboration with a cult car-tuning company from Japan.

1. How Dept

How Dept – which now has branches in Hysan Place, K11 Art Mall and other malls – started life as a furniture-showroom-cum-cafe hidden in an industrial building in Kwun Tong. Now, it returns with a new location on the same street it occupied a decade ago.
