11 new Hong Kong restaurants for January 2025 from Korean barbecue to Chiu Chow and Basque

Get ready for a new year of eating opportunities. After a challenging 2024 that nevertheless saw a consistent stream of restaurant and bar openings, 2025 looks poised to begin with a bang, with plenty of newcomers on the horizon.

With Lunar New Year falling at the end of January, it’s also a good time to do a little reconnaissance of what’s fresh on the Chinese dining front – several of the following look perfect for family dining.

1. Saemaeul Sikdang

If Culinary Class Wars was your jam on Netflix this autumn, do not miss the opportunity to try the new Korean barbecue restaurant by celebrity judge Paik Jong-won, who is a seasoned restaurateur.

His first opening in Hong Kong is a no-frills franchise focusing on Korean pork barbecue classics, plus plenty of rice, noodles, stew and soup options.

2. Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant (Dai Siu)

Following its closure in September 2024, this beloved institution is reopening in the same spot under a new name that takes reference from the nickname of Pui Jun-kuen, the eldest son of Pak Loh Chiu Chow’s founder Pui Sai-hung.
