Discoveryland is an enjoyable day out for children and families
Discover a world of fun
As a Discovery Bay resident with three young children, I found the recent opening of Discoveryland, Hong Kong's largest indoor playground, almost too good to be true. There's now 14,000 square feet of air-conditioned fun on our doorstep.
Discoveryland is now the go-to place for birthday parties on Lantau, and it has also become a destination for families who don't live on the island, too.
It's the perfect place to spend the day with children when the weather, be it too wet or hot, makes it impossible for them to play outside.
My three children love it. Discoveryland is one of those places where time seems to fly by; you arrive at 10am, and then the next time you check your watch it's 2pm and everyone has forgotten to eat lunch. The last time I took my children, I managed to drag them away for 30 minutes to scoff a slice of pizza before returning to the fun.
There is something for children of every age, including some different climbing walls. One caters for children under five years, and the other is for older children. My three-year-old loves the opportunity to put on the harness and safety hat, and make his way up the smaller wall. This is an activity he usually watches his older siblings tackle, but here he can participate, too.
We love the trampolines, although they are usually the one activity you have to queue for. Discoveryland is for the most part well organised, and everyone manages to have a turn without too many arguments. The staff do their best to ensure everyone gets a go. The mini golf is good fun. The rainbow slide and the black hole slide are worth a try (even for adults), but height restrictions do apply, so younger children might be disappointed.
