Hong Kong’s Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival organisers have announced its full 2024 line-up, including the much-awaited news of its Saturday night headline act.
It is Central Cee, who will join Friday night’s headliner Air and Sunday night’s Jack White for the biggest music event in Hong Kong, which runs from November 29 until December 1.
Real name Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, Central Cee is a 26-year-old rapper born in London to a Guyanese father with Chinese ancestry. Nicknamed Cench, he has used the stage name “Central Cee” since he left school at age 16 in 2014.
He rose to popularity on social media app TikTok in 2022 with the hit single “Doja”, in which he sings, “How can I be homophobic? My b**ch is gay”, and makes references to US singer Doja Cat.

Other acts newly announced as performing at Clockenflap include US alt-R&B singer-songwriter Banks, US shoegaze star Wisp, Australian DJ Partiboi69, South Korean alternative rock band The Black Skirts, Filipino-Japanese pop songstress Ena Mori, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Misi Ke, and Chengdu-based indie post-punk band Hiperson.
Hong Kong’s Serrini will grace the Central Harbourfront stage on the Saturday, while Jer Lau from boy band Mirror will perform with veteran producer Carl Wong and his band on the Friday.
Other Hong Kong acts performing include indie bands An Id Signal, Lucid Express, Clave, Biascut, Jerold & Friends, The Afroseas and Wantamnam.
Indie acts from all over the world will also play at Clockenflap 2024, including Canadian band Mother Mother, Japanese-Australian four-piece Last Dinosaurs, Los Angeles duo Bubble Tea and Cigarettes, Southeast London dance-punk group Fat Dog and Dutch psychedelic rockers Yin Yin.
On social media, most music fans reacted positively to seeing Central Cee and Banks on the bill, although a few commenters expressed disappointment, calling the announcement “underwhelming”.

Raised in a disadvantaged part of London, Central Cee is one of the best known rappers of the drill genre.
In 2022, he released his first major-label EP, No More Leaks. In 2023, he collaborated with a fellow UK rapper known professionally as Dave for the track “Sprinter”, which became the longest-running number-one rap song in UK music chart history, holding the position for 10 weeks.
Also in 2023, he was considered for British artist of the year and best British hip-hop act at the Brit Awards, and received nominations for best hip-hop and best UK & Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Awards.
He is set to release his first studio album, Can’t Rush Greatness, for which he has already teased three singles: “Band4Band” in May, “Gen Z Luv” in July and “Moi” in September.
Aside from his catchy tunes, Central Cee is also celebrated for his fashion sense. He often wears tracksuits, puffer jackets and other items associated with UK streetwear culture. After his modelling debut for a Nike collaboration in 2021, he was famously the face of a Jacquemus campaign in 2022.
On September 17, Clockenflap released most of its 2024 line-up, which received a mixed reception from music fans. Organisers hope the unveiling of the full festival line-up will spur sales of festival tickets.

In 2023, there were two Clockenflap festivals as organisers played catch-up after a four-year hiatus due largely to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three-day passes for the second of them, in December 2023, sold out within 24 hours, and one-day passes soon afterwards.
