Cinemas in Hong Kong reopen this week after being closed for more than 100 days due to the latest round of pandemic social-distancing measures.

Local audiences finally have the chance to watch sci-fi disaster flick Moonfall, the latest Scream instalment, and animated smash Sing 2 on the big screen. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third prequel spin-off to JK Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise, hopes to entice audiences back into cinemas, while Nicolas Cage’s meta action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent also debuts.

In the weeks to come, local distributors will be scrambling to find space for delayed blockbusters and awards contenders among 2022’s new crop of releases.

Below are our recommendations for the films to look out for between now and the summer (with Hong Kong opening dates).

1. The Batman

Robert Pattinson dons the cape and cowl in Matt Reeves’ murky, rain-drenched reboot of DC’s Caped Crusader, which is already the year’s biggest box office hit.
