Year of the Snake stamps unveiled by Hongkong Post, to go on sale from January 5, 2025
Four stamps for upcoming Chinese zodiac year each feature a snake wrapped around auspicious plant or flower; collectors’ items readied too
Hongkong Post has unveiled its special stamps marking the upcoming Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac.
Official first-day covers and souvenir covers go on sale at Hongkong Post offices and online from December 18. Sets of four stamps and other souvenirs go on sale on January 5, 2025.
The four stamps making up the set each feature a snake wrapped around auspicious plants and flowers that carry significance in Chinese culture.
For example, the HK$2.20 stamp depicts a purple snake wrapped around bamboo – which symbolises integrity, humility and longevity – while the HK$4 stamp shows a green snake wrapped around a Mandarin orange tree, which is associated with wealth and prosperity.
Meanwhile, stamp sheetlets each offer two depictions of the snake. On the left hand side of each sheetlet is an actual stamp, which features the snake in a paper-cut design. Both the HK$10 and HK$50 stamps are made via hot stamping; the latter is also made with laser cut technology.
