5 shows to see in Hong Kong this weekend, November 22-24, including auction previews
A wide array of auction previews and other art exhibitions are yours to catch this weekend in Hong Kong
The big arts event in Hong Kong this weekend is Hong Kong-born conductor Elim Chan’s guest appearance with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra this Friday and Saturday.
There are also many art exhibitions taking place, including previews of upcoming auctions that do not charge for entry, that are worth checking out this weekend.
1. Hong Kong Philharmonic: Elim Chan & James Ehnes
There is great excitement surrounding the Hong Kong-born conductor’s return to the city given she has won rave reviews conducting major orchestras in the United States and in Europe recently, and made her debut conducting the high-profile First Night of the Proms concert in London.
For the two coming concerts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, she will conduct a programme that begins with a new work composed by Angus Lee, followed by Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with soloist James Ehnes, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5. Last we checked, limited seats are still available on Urbtix!
2. Auction previews
A flurry of auctions of art and collectibles is about to take place in Hong Kong, and free previews are open this weekend. So why not visit the shows at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips and Bonhams to see the exquisite Chinese antiques, and modern and contemporary art, on display ahead of the sales.
