Mother’s Day Market in Discovery Bay The Discovery Bay Mother’s Day Market is a two-day bazaar of local artisans and small businesses that will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm. Carmen by Opera Hong Kong Presented by Opera Hong Kong as part of the French May Arts Festival, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre is showcasing a major production of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen from May 7-10. This specific production, set in 1970s Hong Kong, adds a local twist to the classic tale of devotion, jealousy and fate. Renowned for its universal appeal, Carmen is a masterpiece of French lyricism and Spanish passion. This timeless tragedy narrates Don Jose’s descent into ruin, as he forsakes his reputation and his childhood love, Micaela, to chase the captivating, free-spirited Carmen. The Lupus Revolution Vol. 2 For more than a decade, Hong Kong make-up artist Sapphire Shen has lived with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease in which a person’s immune system attacks their tissues and organs. To help more people increase understanding and support the lupus community, Shen and two fellow patients started a Facebook page in 2017, which grew into the non-profit My Lupus Diary. This Saturday, the organisation is hosting The Lupus Revolution Vol. 2, an awareness-raising event aimed to empower “Lupus Warriors”. Rheumatology specialist Dr Yu Ka-lung will give an educational talk on the medical condition, followed by a fashion showcase where patients walk the runway to celebrate their strength and resilience. Sound of Falling By turns haunting and beguiling, Sound of Falling, which won the Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, observes the lives of four young women growing up during four distinct eras on the same German farm. Director Mascha Schilinski employs a non-linear structure to shift between their stories, intertwining the lives of her inquisitive heroines into a quietly profound meditation on the plight of women over the past century. Spanning more than a hundred years of German history, Sound of Falling unspools entirely within a farmstead in the Altmark region, which fell within the borders of East Germany after World War II. Through the oscillating perspectives of the film’s four protagonists, Schilinski deftly observes women’s evolving status, from commodities to be traded or spoils to be violated, to sexualised objects to be coveted or tamed.
