China is seeing the window of opportunity to deepen industrial ties with its major trading partners in the United States and Europe, as it continues efforts to counter de-risking challenges, with Beijing also remaining open to a visit by another senior official from Washington.
“With the restart of a new round of high-level interactions between China and the United States, the bilateral relationship has once again entered a valuable window of opportunity for improvement,” said Chinese representatives during a dialogue between more than 20 former government officials and industrial and business leaders from China and the US this week.
Both countries can explore cooperation in the digital economy and health sectors, according to a statement following the dialogue jointly held by the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges and the US Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ministry of Commerce spokeswoman Shu Jueting also confirmed on Thursday that China is open to a visit by US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
“China is currently in communication with the US regarding this matter, and China will continue to work on resolving mutual concerns and promoting constructive and pragmatic cooperation through communication,” Shu said.
Beijing and Washington are exploring ways to avoid strained relations from further derailing, and have both mentioned the need to step up communications to explore room for cooperation.
