China urges Dutch to ‘properly’ resolve Nexperia case as talks continue
Beijing said The Hague’s seizure of chipmaker Nexperia threatened global supply chains as two sides held first ministerial call over issue

China urged the Dutch government to uphold “the spirit of contracts” and safeguard the stability of global supply chains as both sides discussed how to resolve the Nexperia case in a phone call on Tuesday.
The discussion between Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans was the first publicised call between senior officials from Beijing and The Hague since the Netherlands seized control of chip firm Nexperia from its Chinese owners on September 30, citing national security concerns.
Wang urged the Dutch side to “promptly and properly” resolve the issue, protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors, and foster a fair, transparent and predictable business environment, according to a statement issued by China’s Ministry of Commerce after the call, which it said was held at the Dutch side’s request.
“Measures taken by the Dutch side regarding Nexperia have seriously affected the stability of global industrial and supply chains,” Wang said.
“China urges the Netherlands to proceed from the overall interest of maintaining global industrial and supply chain security and stability, to uphold the spirit of contracts and the principles of market orientation and the rule of law.”
In response, Karremans said the Dutch government was willing to maintain close communication with the Chinese side to seek “a constructive solution” to the Nexperia issue, according to the Chinese statement.
