Korean rocket countdown … again
South Korea's rocket scientists will be working out whether they should dare to launch the nation's first domestically produced rocket from the new Naro Space Centre off the southern tip of the Korean peninsula. A window of opportunity opens tomorrow. The rocket is due to deploy the STSAT-2C Science and Technology Satellite. The third attempt had been scheduled for October 26, but it was scrubbed at the last minute due to a fuel leak.
 
Marilyn Monroe stars in Warsaw
In what has been billed as Poland's biggest arts auction, rare photographs of Marilyn Monroe are up for sale along with scores of images of Hollywood stars including Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor - all taken by Milton Greene, who died in 1985. Each of the 240 photos has a minimum price of about HK$720. In a bizarre twist, the collection, which totals 4,000 images, was acquired by Poland as part of a 1995 foreign-debt settlement.
 
Another dimension for Darth Vader 
The masterminds at Rovio Entertainment release their latest game worldwide: Angry Birds Star Wars. They cut a deal with LucasArts, which has just been snapped up by Disney as part of a deal for the movie franchise worth more than HK$30 billion. The game will feature the Angry Birds cast starring as Star Wars characters.
 
Hong Kong directors vie for a Golden Horse
The 49th Golden Horse Film Festival opens in Taiwan and the month of movie madness in Yilan City hits a peak on November 24 when the Golden Horse Awards are handed out. Two Hong Kong directors are vying for the award for best feature film - Johnnie To Kei-fung for Life Without Principle and  Law Chi-leung for The Bullet Vanishes. To, 57, has won a cult following worldwide since his 1989 film All About Ah-Long, starring Chow Yun-fat.
 
Verdict on monster mining company
The European Commission announces its competition findings on the merger between Swiss mining giant Xstrata and commodities trader Glencore. "Glenstrata" will be worth €67 billion (HK$664 billion) and will become the world's fourth-biggest commodities company in terms of market capitalisation.
 
Fok heir weds his diving belle 
The grandson of the late businessman Henry Fok Ying-tung, 33-year-old Kenneth Fok, marries 31-year-old Olympic champion diver Guo Jingjing at the Fok mansion in Pok Fu Lam. Over the next few days, the couple will hold celebrations in Guangdong and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. There are rumours the groom's family is spending HK$18 million on the wedding, but one thing looks certain: Guo, an animal-rights activist, will not be serving shark fin.
