Greece's main public and private sector labour unions hold their latest 24-hour strike to protest against new austerity measures sought by the near-bankrupt country's international lenders. The nation's labour minister and international lenders briefly suspended talks on austerity cuts yesterday to confer with their leaders on the thorny issue of labour reforms, which have prompted objections from government coalition partners. Athens is seeking a further €130 billion (HK$1.3 trillion) to keep it afloat.
Hong Kong's unemployment figures for the July to September quarter are released, likely reigniting the debate over the city's minimum wage. Unions say low unemployment shows the city's economy can tolerate a higher minimum wage, while employers say the economic picture is fragile.
