The DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2014 was launched yesterday at a luncheon in Hong Kong.
"This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Business Awards. We started this in 1989. It has developed into Hong Kong's premier business award programme," said Ken Lee, the Hong Kong and Macau managing director of global logistics major DHL.
The number of award categories has expanded from four initially to nine now, Lee said.
The judging for the awards will be held on October 17 and the results will be announced at a gala dinner on December 11.
The awards were established to encourage and sustain the region's entrepreneurial spirit and recognise excellence in corporate management and governance.
The judges of the awards include South China Morning Post business editor Nick Edwards, Professor Richard Wong Yue-chim of the University of Hong Kong, HSBC commercial banking head Albert Chan and Johnny Kwan, the national president of Junior Chamber International Hong Kong.
DHL yesterday also announced a new, separate set of awards called the Enterprising Hong Kong Awards. DHL will be the sole presenting sponsor and SCMP Group the organiser.
The new awards will recognise Hong Kong's most promising enterprises including small and medium-sized enterprises as well as entrepreneurs. The new awards will be presented at a gala dinner on September 25.
"Small and medium enterprises form the engine that has propelled Hong Kong through its different stages of growth, and represents not only the creative spirit of change and commercial adaptation, but also the indomitable spirit of this city," said Robin Hu, the chief executive of SCMP.
