Taiwanese singer and actor Richie Jen Hsien-chi has joined a growing list of celebrities returning to Hong Kong’s luxury property market, purchasing a HK$68.8 million (US$8.8 million) flat in Repulse Bay as confidence gradually returns to the city’s high-end residential sector.
Land Registry records showed that a sale and purchase agreement was signed on June 9 for a four-bedroom unit at Belgravia, a low-density luxury development at 57 South Bay Road.
The buyer was listed as R N C Investment Limited, whose directors were Jen and his wife, Chen Che-yu, according to Companies Registry filings.
The flat has a saleable area of 2,197 sq ft and was sold together with a parking space, translating into a price of about HK$31,315 per square foot.
The transaction was completed at a premium to a recent comparable deal in the development. A higher-floor unit of the same size changed hands for HK$65 million in April 2025, suggesting Jen paid about 5.8 per cent more despite buying a lower-floor flat.
The seller, who acquired the flat and parking space for HK$54 million in 2009, realised a gain of HK$14.8 million, or about 27 per cent, based on the latest transaction price.

Known to fans as Richie Jen, Jen rose to prominence in the late 1990s with hit albums such as Too Softhearted and Love Like Pacific Ocean, becoming one of the bestselling Mandopop artists of his generation.
He later established a successful acting career spanning Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China.
His purchase contrasts with a recent wave of celebrity disposals. Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung recently sold a unit at Grenville House in Mid-Levels for HK$132 million, while actor and singer William Chan sold a flat at The Pavilia Hill in North Point for HK$26.28 million.
The deal comes as Hong Kong’s luxury housing market shows signs of stabilising after years of decline, with mainland Chinese buyers providing much of the support. Buyers identified by Chinese pinyin names accounted for about 65 per cent of first-hand and second-hand home transactions worth more than HK$50 million in the first four months of 2026, according to Midland Realty.
Market observers said some homeowners were taking advantage of renewed liquidity driven by mainland demand to upgrade properties or rebalance their portfolios.
Property consultancy Knight Frank expects the recovery to continue, forecasting luxury home prices to rise by 5 per cent this year, while mass-market residential prices are projected to increase by 8 to 10 per cent.
