Shang Wen is a PhD student at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs of Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on foreign policy, China-related issues, and emerging and disruptive technologies. He is also a global research associate at CJPA Global Advisors, an international consulting and advisory company based in New York. 

China’s ailing property sector is dependent on surging amounts of debt that are unsustainable. With over 40 per cent of local government bonds maturing in the next five years, authorities face a debt squeeze which, even if overcome, will recur without serious reform.
