Scott Laderman

Scott Laderman is a professor of history at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and was the Fulbright Visiting Professor of American Studies at the University of Hong Kong in 2015-2016. Among his recent books is Imperial Benevolence: US Foreign Policy and American Popular Culture since 9/11, a collection of essays he co-edited with Tim Gruenewald of HKU.

The programme is one of the more successful examples of US cultural diplomacy. While Beijing’s threat to Hong Kong is serious, the US has maintained its Fulbright programmes with other countries it sees as adversaries.
