Patrizia Cogo Morales

Patrizia Cogo Morales is project manager and research assistant at the Elcano Royal Institute’s Office in Brussels. She also works as a Project Officer at the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy of the Brussels School of Governance. Previously, she worked at the EsadeGeo-Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics within the team of Dr Javier Solana. She has also worked at the in-house think tank of the government of Catalonia, the European Institute of the Mediterranean, and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Patrizia holds a double bachelors in Law and Global Governance from Esade, and a Master in International Relations from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with exchange programmes in Jerusalem and New Delhi. ‘Security is global’ was the oft-repeated mantra at the Nato summit in Vilnius, although Ukraine garnered much attention. While a liaison office in Japan was not mentioned in the communique, an individually tailored partnership was firmed up, and similar agreements could follow with others Indo-Pacific countries.

Throughout Nato’s history, China has been both adversary and ally, but never before has it been so high up on the organisation’s agenda. While the alliance’s focus remains on Europe, China’s relationship with Russia means that security in the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic are now far more closely intertwined.
