Karen Siu Lan Cheung

Dr Karen Siu Lan Cheung is Centre on Ageing Fellow in the Sau Po Centre on Ageing at the University of Hong Kong. She is the principal investigator of Hong Kong Centenarian Study I and Reaching Out Dementia Caregiver Support Project (REACH-HK). Her research interests cover healthy longevity, centenarians and dementia caregiving, mortality trajectory and life table analysis, population ageing, health life expectancy, family and health-related policy issues, and cross-border population dynamics.

Opinion | Hongkongers may be living longer but they’re not healthier

Chronic diseases, disabilities and dementia are on the rise among Hong Kong’s ageing population while the pandemic has further exposed the lack of resources in elderly care. The city has the financial means and central government support to do better, but it has focused on treatment over prevention.
