Dr Hayes Tang Hei-hang is an associate professor (sociology of higher education) and associate head (quality assurance and enhancement) in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership, and a fellow of the Centre for Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong. He is also executive director of the Asia Pacific Educational Research Association (2024-2025)

While celebrating its universities’ high global rankings, now is the time for the city to press home its advantages and answer a higher calling.

People who are future literate are more skilled at imagining the future and more able to prepare, recover and invent as changes occur. Our schools and universities should nurture people who can imagine beyond pre-existing paradigms to inspire hope and foster collaboration.
