Adrian Lai Wen-Yang
Adrian Lai Wen-Yang is a Singaporean architecture practitioner-educator, principal of MetaArchitecture and adjunct assistant professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Architecture. He graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture and returned to Singapore with two RIBA Lubetkin Awards, one World Architecture Festival Building of the Year and a President's Design Award for projects completed with WilkinsonEyre. With MetaArchitecture, he won the Singapore Institute of Architects' Design Award for Special Projects and the URA's Architectural Heritage Award for Innovation and Restoration for Khong Guan Building. Adrian is a registered architect in the UK and Singapore, and sits on the Council of the Singapore Institute of Architects, co-chairing the Education Thrust. Singapore wants architects and urban planners to give more priority to intangible values like people’s sense of attachment, connection and inclusion. Hong Kong can take a leaf out of Singapore’s playbook in thinking about the preservation of its buildings and spaces, and measuring success differently.
