Hygiene plays a big role in keeping baby safe in the first few years of life which is why extra care is advised when preparing feeds.
Feeding utensils which have not been cleaned thoroughly can house bacteria which could cause illness to a child when their immune system is not fully developed.
This is why the World Health Organization (WHO) and Hong Kong Government’s Family Health Service (FHS) advise parents to thoroughly sterilize bottles, teats and any implements used for feeding before use.
The best way to do so, FHS says, is to boil all bottles and implements in a pan of water for ten minutes, use a steam sterilizer or sterilizing solution while carefully following the manufacturers’ instructions.
	The traditional safe method is to use cooled boiled water to eliminate any bacteria which may be present. This, nonetheless, may no longer be the only option available for new-generation parents nowadays.
The new quick and easy alternative
The new Wyeth BabyNes is an innovative formula system which makes preparing safe and hygienic feeds much easier with the use of bottled distilled water rather than conventionally boiled water.
Designed in Switzerland, the BabyNes machine has been developed with hygiene safeguards as a top priority.
It uses formula milk powder contained in hermetically sealed capsules which when inserted in the machine mixes with distilled water^ to make a smooth formula feed for your baby.
Once the milk powder capsule has been inserted into the machine and the button pressed, it warms up to the suitable temperature for baby between 27 and 40 degrees. All this takes less than a minute.
This use of distilled water is in line with the WHO’s recommendations which state that feeds can be prepared using “fresh, safe water at room temperature” and should be consumed immediately and not stored for later use.
The added benefit of using cooler water is that it helps maintain the BIFIDUS BLTM, the live and active probiotic culture Bifidobacterium lactis which is contained in the formula and contributes to the development of a healthy gut flora and helps support the immune system.
Filtered for extra peace of mind
To give parents extra peace of mind, each BabyNes capsule is hermetically sealed to protect it from any contaminants in the environment.
In addition, each capsule contains an inbuilt integral microbiological water filter which filters any bacteria present in the bottled distilled water. Thus, before the water has contact with the formula powder, it has been filtered to a hygienic level.
When mixed, the formula flows directly into the feeding utensil without making contact with the machine to ensure a safe and hygienic formula feed that gives parents peace of mind and helps their growing baby stay healthy and safe.
^Distilled water should not be confused with mineral water which, says the Hong Kong FHS, contains minerals which may contain mineral levels which may not be suitable for very young children.
