Visitors to the spring HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair could be forgiven for thinking they have dropped in on a famous artist's exhibition, or that they are getting a sneak peek into a hi-tech home of the future.

That is if the range of innovative and creative products to be showcased at the event, from today until Monday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, are anything to go by.

A floating bulb that rotates with the help of cutting-edge electromagnetic levitation technology; a light so smart - and environmentally friendly - that it senses when you come home; and an exquisitely designed string of dragonflies are just a few of the products visitors and buyers can expect to find.

The fair is being presented as a standalone event for the first time and promises to be a magnet for industry players seeking the latest in lighting innovation and design.

'The exhibition enhances brand awareness, and gives customers a better understanding of the structure and application of products,' says Matthew Yuen, general manager of eight-time exhibitor CGD (Asia), which specialises in energy-efficient lighting.

More than 950 exhibitors will fill the exhibition centre's spacious Hall 1 and Hall 3, an increase of 45 per cent over last year. The expansion means the fourth edition of the event is introducing several new zones and display areas for global buyers to source targeted products with ease and efficiency.

The Hall of Aurora, Hall of LED and World of Crystal Chandeliers display areas are new to the spring edition and destined to be highlights of the fair.
