 Who says that planning for retirement has to be boring? As strange as it might sound, the government  runs a quirky, cartoon-filled website about Hong Kong's compulsory retirement investment scheme, the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF). The site revolves around a group of five bouncy characters  who dispense information about various MPF funds over a looped ragtime soundtrack.  It includes everything from tools for calculating retirement needs and accrued benefits to a games corner.

 The Motley Fool, an investment website, hosts an excellent collection of articles about retirement planning. Articles cover  its ins and outs  from a multitude of angles in an easy-to-read style that helps clarify some of the trickier aspects of the subject. Topics include asset allocation for building a perfect portfolio, knowing when to cash out and common investment myths. While some of the  advice is US-specific, much of  it is broad enough to cover Hongkongers.

CNN Money (part of CNN.com) hosts a detailed online retirement planning tool. The four-step calculator estimates how much savings a user will need to adequately prepare for retirement at an age he or she specifies at an annual income level he or she  expects. The tool takes into account retirement goals, income, portfolio holdings and savings before showing whether or not a user is on the right track to retire at the age  indicated. Tips are offered for those who aren't.
