We're too fat and don't get enough sleep, Hongkongers say
Most Hong Kong people believe they don't get enough sleep and are too fat, a new survey has found.
Less than one in five people say they sleep for long enough, according to the survey by American International Assurance. Meanwhile, 70 per cent think they need to lose weight.
On average, Hong Kong people sleep 6.6 hours a night but say they would like to get 8.3 hours of sleep. In contrast, people in Macau say they sleep an average of 7.2 hours.
Researchers interviewed 605 people in Hong Kong and 150 in Macau over the past two months. Given a choice of 14 health issues, respondents in both cities ranked lack of sleep as their number one concern, followed by 'lack of exercise' and 'too much stress'.
'Having a happy frame of mind' was ranked the top health priority in Hong Kong, but second in Macau.
But a leading doctor said it was the quality, not the length, of sleep that counted most.
