Chinese authorities have ordered online game operators on the mainland to let parents monitor their children's game-playing sessions.
The Parents' Guardian Project for Minors Playing Online Games will come into effect as the number of young internet addicts on the mainland continues to rise. The project was a joint decision by eight central government departments, including the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Public Security.
Where?
Which parts of China will the project affect? It will be effective in all parts of the country, but not in Hong Kong.
Why?
Why are the Chinese authorities doing this? This is a move to crack down on the growing internet addiction problem among teenagers. According to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the number of teenage internet addicts in the country has reached 33 million.
