Tomorrow, 9pm, The Mira

No idea how you're ringing in 2011? We have one: try The Mira Hong Kong for a night of trip hop and breaks with leading electronica figure James Lavelle.

With almost 15 years in dance music, Lavelle is a master Svengali who has recorded with Thom Yorke, Jarvis Cocker and Ian Brown. He is also one half of electronica outfit UNKLE, who recently released their fifth album, Where Did the Night Fall. Deftly treading the line between left field and mainstream - characteristic of Lavelle's eclectic tastes - the rock-fringed collection features artists such as art-rock band Autolux, psychedelic surfer band Sleepy Sun and instrumental group Big In Japan.

Lavelle (right) is also entrenched in the business of music - at 19, he founded the Mo' Wax record label, which launched some of dance music's biggest artists, including DJ Shadow and DJ Krush. Although drawn to the music industry by a love of hip hop - he once said 'I became a DJ because I couldn't breakdance. And I was no good at graffiti' - Lavelle is hard to pigeon-hole, with his sound encompassing a wide range of genres, including trip hop, techno, breakbeat and house.

Nor does his influence stop at music for the masses. He has also scored films, including the 2000 British film Sexy Beast, and in August staged his first major music and art show in London. The exhibition, with artwork inspired by UNKLE's music, was soundtracked by another Lavelle musical collaborator, post-punk legend Nick Cave.

When Lavelle hits the decks alone, one thing's for sure - his selections will be as eclectic as his musical partners.
