It might be a little late for the opening of the school term, but if you are thinking of upgrading your PC for the new academic year, then you might want to consider the Dell Inspiron M101z laptop.

This portable model is being marketed as thin, though it is 35 millimetres at its thickest. However, it is light, weighing in at less than two kilograms.

It does feature a 29.4-centimetre widescreen, which is slightly larger than most netbooks on the market today.

Inside the M101z is an AMD Athlon II Neo processor, backed by 4GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1,333MHz, as well as an integrated ATI Mobility Radeon HD4225 graphics card and options for a 250GB or 500GB hard disk.

Even better is the six-cell battery, which should get you up to six-and-a-half hours of operating time.

You could also get an HDMI output to watch media on your HD television. Also included are a 1.3 mega-pixel webcam, full wireless LAN connectivity, Bluetooth, and a 7-in-1 media card reader.
