To commemorate the end of the noughties, the SYP team look back over the past 10 years in music and pick their artists, albums, event, flop and surprise of the decade.

Artist: Britney Spears. The millennium began with Oops! I Did It Again, breaking all manner of sales records, ends with a major comeback in 3, Spear's latest chart-topping single, and featured many dramas in between. Her fights with her mother, broken marriages, meltdowns and rehab make her probably the most covered artist in the media. And who will ever forget her hair-shaving shocker?
Albums: Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) marked the breakthrough of the king of controversy, who later became the top-selling artist of the noughties. Because he could, we found out white rappers can rock. He was recently dubbed artist of the decade by Billboard magazine.
Radiohead's In Rainbows (2007). The British band released this game-changing album online for digital download for however much money they thought it was worth. This astounding marketing strategy created a huge amount of buzz over how high-quality music could still stand strong in the piracy-devastated industry.
Event: Live 8. The string of large-scale benefit concerts, which united more than 1,000 musicians in the fight against poverty, were aired live all over the world. Likely the biggest music event after the legendary Live Aid 20 years prior to these charity efforts.
