Connections of Galen Win had to wait the bare 20 months between his first win and a second victory yesterday, but trainer David Hall has come to the conclusion that at least he knows what the gelding is all about now. 'When he arrived it was hard to know - he'd won at 1,000m in Australia but also at 1,800m - it was an unusual mix,' he said after Keith Yeung Ming-lun guided home the six-year-old in softening conditions. 'We have tried him at a few things to get him to win again, including 1,800m, but I've never been convinced that it's his go. He doesn't look like a stayer physically and he sweats up, gets excited before a race, and that isn't usually the sign of a stayer.' In nine runs at 1,200m, Galen Win has never been further back than fourth and was an improved horse from his first-up run. 'He ran well there but I thought he could only go forward in fitness and he made that step today with the light weight,' Hall said.
