Following the success of Nintendo's Wii, Sony Ericsson has introduced its own version of motion gaming in the form of the new F305 handset.
Targeting the entry level segment, the F305 won't come with fancy data features, or even 3G connectivity. What it does have is a new feature that uses the integrated digital camera (only 2 megapixels) to sense motion, allowing game developers to build game play that can include a flick of the wrist to a swing of the arm.
The F305 will come with only three games - Bowling, Bass Fishing and Jockey - but at the launch of the handset, Sony Ericsson executives promised many more options would be available from the company's online games download portal.
While the concept sounds really cool, first impressions of the gaming experience leave much to be desired.
The biggest problem is that most of the game movements require the on-screen arm to be swung away from view. So you can't really see what you're casting out when you're fishing, and you can't really see the ball being launched from your hand when bowling.
Hopefully, the developers will eventually figure this out and develop games where the interaction is shown on the screen.
