Installing a surround-sound system once meant wiring up six to eight speakers in strategic spots around your room. That changed in 2005, when Yamaha launched the YSP-1 digital sound projector - a single-speaker surround system. The company's new YSP-4000 raises the bar on this product category, having analogue-to-digital video conversion via its high-definition multimedia interface, a built-in digital amplifier with 120 watts of power, a front panel mini-jack for an iPod and Yamaha's patented IntelliBeam feature, which bounces sound off a room's walls to create a multispeaker surround-sound effect. An ideal match for large flat-panel televisions, the YSP-4000 costs HK$10,800.
