La Salle College is staging an English musical later this month to celebrate the life and teachings of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers.
The performance, Touching Hearts: The Story of St La Salle, involves more than 300 La Salle students, staff and alumni who wrote the script, organised the props, made the costumes and choreographed the dance scenes.
The music was also composed by students and staff and will be performed by the school's orchestra.
While the subject - the life story of De La Salle - was chosen to celebrate the school's 75th anniversary, the students said the play was more than a glorification of their patron. It is also a discussion on the education values and life principles De La Salle preached more than 300 years ago.
De La Salle did not intentionally get involved in education. Yet one commitment led to another and he set up the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as De La Salle Brothers.
'De La Salle once said if God had revealed to him what he would do, his courage would have failed him,' said Gordon Chung Kwok-win, a Form Seven student who wrote the script.
