Fireman Wong Ka-wai was crowned the winner of the first race of the King of the Hills time trial summer series after beating a fellow firefighter home in Sunday's tough Discovery Bay event.
Wong, 29, finally got the better of young fireman Stone Tsang Siu-keung, who was struggling with the heat. Wong, who took up running just 18 months ago, has finished second to Tsang numerous times.
King of the Hill runners must complete as many 2.5km loops as they can within one hour. The runner who completes the most wins. If there is a tie, the one with the best time wins.
Tsang was leading during the second loop but Wong overtook him and headed towards the finish line at DB Plaza with the time of 41:50.
Tsang failed to make it home within the hour and therefore was disqualified.
Adrian King was second across the line, in 43:13. 'There was no chance I was going to attempt the third loop in these conditions,' King said.
Third to cross the line - and the first male under-40 - was another veteran mountain runner from the Fire Services, Fong Ming-fai.
