Avril Lavigne has said goodbye to her awkward tomboy phase. Gone is the moody persona. What we see and hear now is a grown-up songstress. And what a relief that is.
Her third full-length album The Best Damn Thing has been eagerly awaited by teen fans all over the world.
The album is full of exuberant songs. It rocks off with Girlfriend, which could have been pulled straight from the soundtrack of a teen flick. With lyrics such as 'She's like so whatever', it is set to become a teen anthem.
The Best Damn Thing is another catchy tune that gets stuck in your head. Lavigne has grown from the angry teen to a young lady who loves boys enough to marry one - the multi-platinum artist wed Sum 41's Deryck Whibley last year.
To say Lavigne's lyrics have matured at the same rate as her sense of style would be going too far. But the thoughts she expresses are less mopey than on previous albums, in some cases bordering on entertaining.
