To lure young people out of their air-conditioned homes and into the sun, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) has organised two sporting camps this summer.
The HKFYG is co-organising the 2007 Divac Youth Basketball Camp with the Divac Children's Foundation (DCF). The camp will give teachers and teens an opportunity to experience world-class basketball training from NBA All-Stars.
More than 300 youngsters took part in last year's Divac Youth Basketball Camps in China - Beijing, Shanghai, Shantou and Anshan - and the United States.
The 2007 Divac Youth Basketball Camp - to be held from July 16-19 - will feature activities in Hong Kong, Shantou (or Guangzhou), Jinan and Dalian . This year's programme will be led by Vlade Divac, renowned Olympic medallist and former NBA superstar; Vladimir Radmanovic, Los Angeles Lakers player; Peja Stojakovic, New Orleans Hornets player; and Igor Kokoskov, a national Olympic coach at the 2004 Athens Games.
The aim is to teach youth the importance of leadership, teamwork and mutual respect, communication and physical conditioning through hard work within the context of international-style basketball fundamentals and techniques. The programme will also help raise funds to support DCF's China Mission.
The HKFYG is also organising a golf training camp, sponsored by the Mission Hills Golf Club. A two-day golf camp for 40 young people aged 11 to 17 will be held on July 23-24 at Mission Hills.
