Bodyguards, fan mail, queues of adoring admirers demanding autographs and performances around the world. It sounds like the life of a Hollywood actor or rock star. Except that this particular celebrity is 13 years old and goes to King George V School.
Ryutaro Yanagita will be sharing the title role with schoolmate Michael Lin in the musical version of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan when the production makes its return visit to Hong Kong next month.
The show will give Ryutaro a chance to use the singing, acting and dancing skills he's been honing from the age of three. Originally recruited to play one of the Lost Boys, he landed the title role after an impressive performance last year as Passepartout in Around the World in 80 Days.
Dressed in an over-sized basketball shirt and shorts, dog-tag necklace and red baseball cap, the young performer is an accomplished breakdancer - a skill that's helped him both on the stage and in the playground.
'My school friends are always asking me to entertain them,' Ryutaro says. 'They'll say, 'Come on, do something for us' and I'll do a flip.'
Ryutaro and Michael's acrobatics reportedly have impressed audiences throughout the region.
