Shanghai police have cracked what they claim is the city's biggest internet theft case, local media reported yesterday.

Police said the case involved two suspects who stole more than 160,000 yuan by fraudulently accessing their victim's accounts online.

The victim, software company manager Cai Zhong , 33, lost 163,014 yuan from two accounts at the China Construction Bank in March through 11 online transactions to an account in Yunnan province's Kunming city , the Oriental Morning Post reported.

Police arrested two suspects in Kunming - a 31-year-old software programmer whose name was given only as Bai and Bai's girlfriend.

The suspects allegedly confessed that they had targeted Mr Cai's accounts when he was surfing through an online auction website.

Receiving photos, the victim's computer was infected by a Trojan virus that allowed the suspects to obtain his bank account information and steal the money.
