In the spirit of the Big Apple, a deli promising 'the best sandwiches in town' has opened on Wellington Street. Located in the middle of Central, Deli @ Wellington caters to office workers who can't afford to spend much time away from their desks. The small (14-seat) restaurant offers all-day breakfasts (eggs Benedict, HK$58; sirloin steak and eggs, HK$78; lox with eggs and onions, HK$68), appetisers (potato latkes, HK$48; Buffalo wings, HK$48), pizzas, pasta, soups, salads and burgers. But it really lives up to its deli name in its selection of classic sandwiches: the Reuben (pastrami, corned beef, turkey and melted cheese with sauerkraut and Russian dressing, HK$68); hot pastrami or corned beef (HK$68); salami with provolone and pesto (HK$68); chopped liver and egg mayonnaise (HK$68); and smoked salmon with cream cheese (HK$68).

Deli @ Wellington is the latest in a slew of eateries to open in the bustling area between Wyndham and Stanley streets. It's the brainchild of Karen Lai, who worked in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years before she decided to set up on her own. She plans to start delivery and catering services later this month.

Deli @ Wellington is open Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 9pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 6pm. It's at 92 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2828 3669. The menu can be found online, at www.deliatwellington.com.
