THE INFORMATION AGE and advances in digital technology have created a secondary industry that supplies peripheral devices for personal computers to help navigate the latest systems.
Regular internet users are familiar with such gadgets as the mouse, webcams and headsets. These have become essential tools, which is good news for firms such as Logitech that manufacture such products.
'Two trends are the rising popularity of digital music and use of the internet for free voice and video communication,' said Christina Wong Wai-man, human resources manager, Logitech Hong Kong. 'These developments are helping us to expand.'
The firm is a market leader and produces the interface devices that allow people to operate and communicate in the digital world. These include a wide range of peripherals for gaming, multimedia links, portable music players, mobile phones and home entertainment systems.
The company was founded in Switzerland in 1981 with more than 7,200 employees in offices around the world. The Hong Kong office was opened in 2000.
With the digital and information revolutions set to continue, growth prospects are bright. The expanding company, which will be investing heavily in design and manufacturing, will be hiring in Hong Kong over the next two years.
