Malaysian-Chinese singer-songwriter Michael Wong Kong Leong treated fans to a journey through his life and career in a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum earlier this week. Local supporters, along with fans from Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan, filled the venue's 13,000 seats.

Wong, known for his catchy love tunes and gentle voice, decided to forgo ostentatious visual effects and costumes in favour of a more modest approach. The 35-year-old started the show with the ballad Angel, played on a grand piano. Fans were also shown a montage of images of his childhood, family and career.

'My songs are a record of my life and memories,' Wong said. 'Lots of them have special meaning for me.'

He also performed numbers from his first album, 1994's Palm - by Michael & Victor, which he formed with Victor Wong Pin-kuan - as well as songs from his first solo album.

Wong, who started learning the piano when he was 10, said he hadn't planned on becoming a singer. 'But people around me said my singing wasn't bad. Gradually, I started to sing more.'

Commitment, his latest album, has reached platinum in Hong Kong and sold more than 700,000 copies across Asia.
