Many people would opt for takeaways because they're convenient. Takeaways save time and energy, but they come with a price - the food is extremely unhealthy. And that's one of the reasons why I like home-cooked meals.
The average takeaway has a high fat content, in addition to large amounts of salt and sugar. This can lead to heart disease and diabetes.
Although there is a wide variety to choose from, there's no guarantee about the quality of the ingredients used.
Besides, takeaway portions are much bigger that what people usually eat at home. And since Hongkongers do little exercise, they could put on weight and suffer health problems.
You can achieve a balanced diet with home cooking as you can choose the ingredients and control how much you eat.
Takeaways pose an environmental problem as well. Polystyrene containers, plastic bags and wooden utensils are clogging our landfills.
