TATTOO parlours have been issued with guidelines to prevent transmission of blood-borne diseases.
The Secretary for Health and Welfare, Elizabeth Wong Chien Chi-lien, said the guidelines focused on the risk of hepatitis B and HIV transmission.
They also give instructions on hygiene standards, disinfection of equipment, and disposal of sharp instruments.
In her written reply to United Democrats legislator Dr Huang Chen-ya, Mrs Wong said there was no need for further legislation on such parlours to prevent disease transmission.
The Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance already empowers the Director of Health to enter and order disinfection of any premises where infectious diseases are suspected.
