THE ANNUAL DRAMA night of Pui Ching Middle School (pictured above) was held on April 23. It was a big  event!

Schools in the  area were invited to the show, including the principals, teachers, parents and students, and there was more than 600 people in the audience that night.

The show  consisted of three performances: the winning skit of the inter-class drama competition; the award-winning play of the Drama Festival 2005 - Let Me Be Successful, Let Me Be Slim - and the famous Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof.

I was Golde in Fiddler,

a bossy mother in a traditional village in old Russia.

Although this was not  my first musical, I was very nervous.

I was so worried that I might sing off key and that I would forget to do the things that I was expected to do by the teachers in charge.

Before it was our turn to perform, we were asked to wait in the waiting area.

While most people were very happily joking with each other and taking pictures, a few actors and I began to feel the tense atmosphere.

We encouraged each other by singing verses together. We sang so loudly that the room was filled with our songs and joy. Some even came to join us between songs.

The musical did not run smoothly at first. There were some small technical problems and the first song was played prematurely.

Luckily, all  those on stage realised the problem immediately and acted calmly.

I am so proud of all of us! We did it! Everything went naturally and smoothly afterwards.

We were all very excited and overwhelmed after the performance. We continued to sing and dance and took pictures after the curtain call.

Although the show was not a perfect one, it has  left a lasting impression on all of us who  participated in it.

But without the aid of the teachers and backstage crews, the show would not have been  so successful. Many thanks to all of them.

The roars and cheers of spectators highlighted the events at the Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School Swimming Gala, held  at Victoria Park Swimming Pool.

School House won the overall championship and also  tied for first place with  Denmark House in the Best Cheering Team Competition.

The Grade A  boys' and girls' individual championships went to Lau Hin-chun and Lau Tin-wing respectively.

At the prize-giving ceremony, our guest-of- honour,  Ma Shuk-yee, chairwoman  of the Parent-Teacher Association, showed her appreciation

for the enthusiastic participation of the students.

Ms Ma gave a succinct and witty speech which earned warm applause from the audience.
