Over the past 25 years, the Li Ka Shing Foundation has channelled about $7.6 billion to educational, health, cultural and welfare causes. They include:
Shantou University: established in 1981 to raise education levels in Mr Li's home town of Chaozhou, Shantou University has received approximately $1.8 billion.
The University of Hong Kong: prior to the $1 billion donation, the foundation funded the university's phase 4 expansion, completed in 1994, with the Chong Yuet Ming Buildings named after his late wife.
Peking University: helped fund the university library's new wing, completed in 1998.
Open University of Hong Kong: in 2000, presented OUHK with its largest ever private donation - $40 million towards a location for its Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiSpace).
Hong Kong Polytechnic University: in 2000, gave $100 million for continuing education.
