I am against beauty pageants for women, but I realise that there is very little chance of them being scrapped.

Competitions such as Miss Universe have evolved over the years and many new elements have been introduced to cater to the audience's varied tastes.

To promote  gender equality and satisfy feminists, I believe there should be a male version of Miss Hong Kong.

A woman who has been selected to represent Hong Kong or Asia should be paired with a male representative.

If women are given a shortcut to the entertainment industry through beauty pageants, why can't men have the same?

After all, there should be equal opportunities for everybody.

Besides, beauty pageants are like TV dramas which depend on creativity to draw an audience.

People are losing interest in beauty pageants so they would like to see something bold and refreshing.

A male competition would pose a new challenge and  satisfy viewers' never-ending quest for excitement.

I think there are many reasons why there shouldn't be a Mr Hong Kong pageant.

Beauty pageants in the West  not only focus  on beauty and talents.

They revolve around people who have been preparing for months to face the biggest challenge of their lives.  The Hong Kong entertainment industry tends to create programmes  to suit the local audience, who are very different from their western counterparts.

A local male pageant would not  focus on the contestants, but on the fact that they're better looking than the average guy.

Why would I want to watch a glorified fashion show?

I don't watch beauty pageants, and I don't want to even think about what they would be like if the women were replaced by men.

Even if male beauty pageants focus on the contestants' personalities, I still dislike the idea.

I've seen what American Idol has done to my friends; they've become obsessed with the show.

The last thing we need is something  similar at a local level.

I wouldn't be able to stand it if my friends started to talk enthusiastically about muscular men and why they should win a beauty pageant.
