An important reason for writing is to tell people about events. Nowadays, sports events are big business. Many reports about soccer, tennis or basketball tournaments can be found in newspapers. Even though many of these games are broadcast on television, people still like to read newspaper reports about them. A writer can make better judgments than commentators who have no time to think.
You can write about school sports events. You can share these reports with friends or post them on a school notice board. In your report, give the facts and you can include your opinion about what you saw.
A School Football Match
On Saturday, Tuen Mun Buddhist Secondary School's football team played their annual fixture against their great rivals Kowloon Technical College. Supporters from both schools arrived early at King's Park sports ground and they were excited.
Humidity was high but the fans' enthusiasm was not dampened as the teams ran onto the pitch. The players were nervous in the first few minutes. There was no pattern to the play. But things soon settled down.
After 20 minutes, there was still no score. Then Tuen Mun attacked and Ben Wong was fouled in the penalty area. Ben picked himself up and scored the penalty awarded by the referee. That made the score 1-0. Both teams had chances but the score at half-time remained the same. During the interval, both coaches spoke to their players. They asked the boys to try harder.
The second half of the match began with a goal. Kowloon player James Chui headed the ball into an empty net after the Tuen Mun goalkeeper pushed the ball out to him. The fans clapped and cheered. Both teams were now level.
